Biography

After serving as a Sergeant in the US Army from 1943 to 1946, Ralph S. Gens earned his bachelor's degree from Oregon State University. He began his career with Bonneville Power Administration in 1948 as an entry-level engineer. By 1977, Gens climbed the ranks to become the Assistant Administrator for Engineering. Gens has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors throughout his career from the US Department of the Interior, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and the CIGRE. He received the 2003 IEEE Medal for Engineering Excellence, but this was not his first award from the organization. In 1984, he received both the IEEE Harbishaw Award and Centennial Award.
