Biography

L F Stringer was born on September 28 of 1925. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas, and a MS from CalTech and a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the Westinghouse company in 1947, becoming successively Manager of Engineering Systems Control Division, Manager of Industrial Systems Division, and Chief Engineer of the Power Electronics and Drive Systems Division.

He received the prestigious Westinghouse Special Patent award, the Westinghouse B G Lamme Scholarship, the Westinghouse Order of Merit, the IEEE Newell award (1984) and the IEEE Lamme Medal (1985). At retirement in 1985, Mr. Stringer held more than 25 patents. He was a member of the IEEE Static Power Coverter Committee and the Power Semiconductor Committee. He was Chairman of the NEMA’s Static Power Converter Section and ANSi Technical Support Subcommittee.
