Joseph T. Threston

Biography

Joseph T. Threston received the 1995 IEEE Simon Ramo Medal for "leadership of the design, development and production of the AEGIS ship combat system." Threston contributed to the development of this system during his career at RCA's Missile and Surface Radar division in the 1960s. The AEGIS ship combat system is a naval weapons system that tracks and guides weapons to destroy opposing targets using radar and computer technology.

Threston began his career in naval engineering in 1959, when he joined Guided Missile Laboratory at Hughes Aircraft Company. While there, he contributed to the development of the Falcon Missile System. Threston joined RCA in the 1960s. He became General Manager of the Naval Systems department in 1996. Threston eventually became the company president after Lockheed Martin acquired his department in 1995.

In addition to the Ramo Medal, Threston also received the 1991 American Society of Naval Engineers Harold E. Saunders Award.
