Chronology
The Phoenix Section started operations in 1941. Its "birthday" is March 22 (see IEEE Geographic Unit Organizing Document - Phoenix). At that time IEEE was known as the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE). On January 10, 1951, the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) also established a Phoenix Section. AIEE and IRE merged in 1963 to form the IEEE.
