The IEEE Huntsville  Section was inaugurated on 11 November 1953 under the then IRE. The Huntsville Section is located in Alabama and located in the IEEE Region 3.
 
The turning point for Huntsville becoming a technological center of excellence was in the early 1950's was the US Government decision to locate a major army base and shortly thereafter the NASA ground facilities in support of the nearby Cape Canaveral launch facilities in Florida.
 
==MILESTONE COMMEMORATION==
An IEEE Milestone was commemorated on August 19th 2019 at the University of Alabama, Huntsville (UAH) at the I2C Center. The Milestone was initiated as a result of a High Temperature Superconductivity discovery that involved the subtle differentiation between conceptual theory mooted by others and the practical fabrication of the first High Temperature Superconductor.  This IEEE Milestone was just the 3rd located in Region 3.
