IEEE was formed on 1 January 1963 through the merger of the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) and the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE). As 2012 was IEEE's 50th year, and the IEEE History Center recognized all those who have been loyal members since the beginning, and undertook an initiative to publish the first hand histories from members who had been continuous IEEE members from 1963 to 2012.

The 50 Year Member (1963 - 2012) First Hand Histories is a special collection of First Hand Histories submitted by these members.
