Ernst A. Guillemin was born in Milwaukee, WI, on 8 May 1898. He received the B.S. degree in 1922 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the S. He returned to M.I.T. as an instructor, becoming Assistant Professor in 1928, Associate Professor in 1936, and Professor of Electrical Communications in 1944.
