Biography

Dr. Papadias received a bachelor's and doctorate degree from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, and a master's and doctorate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, USA. He joined the Public Power Corp. where he worked on system and planning studies, specifications of power systems, system studies on overvoltages, air breakdown of trigatrons and other subjects.

Later he became professor of electric energy systems and director of the Electric Energy Systems Laboratory at the National Technical University.

Dr. Papadias wrote more than 100 research and technical papers and several textbooks on electric power. He was a Fellow of the IEE and a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi and the Technical Chamber of Greece. Dr. Papadias was a member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society governing board and European IEEE Chapter Coordinating Committee Chair

Basil Papadias died April 4th, 2002.
