In this text In 1953, IBM delivered its 701 Electronic Data Processing Machine, a large-scale computer for scientific and engineering applications, including national defense calculations. is the unusual phrase national defense calculations. It would appear the project's name, Defense Calculator, has become tangled with the machine's description. See Bash, ... IBM's Early Computers p.135-164. The tangle should be deleted and the project's name (which is of historic interest - p.135), if desired, should be stated explicitly.
