I think TPC-1 is worthy of being an IEEE Milestone. Before TPC-1 short wave transmission technology was used for telecommunications between Japan and US and a small number of voice channels were available and they were not always stable. In that sense TPC-1 really opened up a way toward broadband telecommunications between Japan and US and it should be a big milestone.

I support the milestone. I would favor shortening or substituting the last sentence of the citation and in place emphasizing the historical / technological significance.

How about the following updated Citation?

The first transpacific undersea coaxial telephone cable linking Japan, Hawaii and the US Mainland was completed in 1964. It was a joint project among American Telephone and Telegraph, Hawaiian Telephone Company, and Kokusai Denshin Denwa. Service over this communication bridge was inaugurated on 19 June 1964 by President Lyndon B Johnson and Prime Minister Hayato Ikeda. TPC-1 improved communication between Asia and U.S.A./Europe, and contributed to submarine cable technologies. (69 words)

I noted "TPC-1" Proposal is now "Ready for Board of Directors Action". How about the Citation? Shall I replace the the wording at Proposal by the above updated Citation (as of 9 March) in this Discussion? Kuwazuru (Proposer)
