A book has been published on the history of timekeeping, On Time: How America Has Learned to Live Life by the Clock, by Carlene E. Stephens of the Smithsonian Institution, 2002. The same author has also created a website devoted to the Quartz Watch. This website includes a timeline that shows how a variety of inventions led to today's quartz watches:
