Biography

Sam H. Kaplan received the 1978 IEEE Vladimir K. Zworykin award "For contributions to the theory and development of shadow mask tubes." He is best known as the co-creator of the Chromacolor picture tube. In 1969, Kaplan and Joseph Fiore invented the device, which made the picture of color television sets two times brighter. In addition, the invention of the Chromacolor picture tube made Zenith the number one television brand in the 1970s. Kaplan died of heart failure in 2000.
