The IBM Personal Computer(PC) 5150 was presented to the news media in New York City on 12 August 1981. Competing with the Apple II, IBM used its well-known brand name to capture much of the new PC market. For software, IBM hired the Microsoft Corporation to design the MS-DOS operating system.
