John Vig
John Vig: Biography
Born:
John Vig received the B.S. degree from City College New York, in 1964; and the Ph.D. in Physics from Rutgers - The State University, in 1969. He joined the Electronic Components Laboratory at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, USA in 1969. Throughout his professional career, working as a physicist, electronics engineer and program manager, he performed and led research aimed at developing precision clocks, sensors and low-noise oscillators. He retired in 2006 but continued working as a consultant.
Dr. Vig has been awarded 55 patents, and has published more than 100 papers and nine book chapters. He serves as a volunteer in his home town - as an Environmental Commissioner and trustee of the Friends of the Library. In his spare time, he and his wife of 47 years enjoy ballroom dancing.
In 1988, he was elected Fellow of the IEEE "for contributions to the technology of quartz crystals for precision frequency control and timing." John Vig was 2009 IEEE President.
