The very first contacts between IEEE and representatives of engineering community in Belarus were initiated in 1990 by Prof. Serge Demidenko, that time - Head of Research Lab of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus as well as Visiting Honorary Research Fellow at Brunel University, UK (sponsored by the Royal Society of London). As a result of his meetings and discussions in London with Mr. Sven-Olof Ohrvik, Director of the IEEE Region 8, the very first high-level official meeting took place in Warsaw between the IEEE President Carleton A.
