This is a help page in the Writing section.

The Rich Editor is the a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor, which displays text in a fashion similar to Microsoft Word, whereas Wikitext is a markup language similar to HTML. The Rich Editor is recommended for beginner users, whereas the Wikitext is recommended for more advanced and frequent users of the site.

There are several ways to switch between the two editors:

  • When editing an article, click on "Disable rich editor" or "Enable Rich Editor"
  • The Rich Editor can be disabled in My Preferences

For specific information on formatting, see the respective Rich Editor Formatting and Wikitext Formatting guide help pages.
