Help:Creating a First Hand History

Submitting a First Hand History is one of the ways you can help preserving the record of engineering and its related technologies. Your experiences provide a personal touch to the history of technology and can be an excellent insight into the history of technical fields, inventions and the social implications of technology. There are many ways to submit a First Hand History to the IEEE History Center

Through the Wiki Interface

Submitting a First Hand History through the Global History Network's website interface is the fastest way to get your memoirs published. To submit a memoir, first log in with your account. If you do not have an account, you can request one.

Once you are logged in, visit the First Hand Histories landing page and scroll down to where you see "Contribute First-Hand History"

Enter the title of your First Hand History and click on "Create First-Hand History". You can then type in your history and when finished click on "Save Page".

Through E-mail

We accept submissions via email, you can email it to n.w.brewer@ieee.org and we will post it online for you. Our preferred formats are Word Document (.doc/.docx) or a Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file, but we will try to open anything that you have.

Through Postal Mail

We also accept submissions via the more traditional means of sending in a hard copy. If you have a printed manuscript, please send it to:

and attach any photographs or supporting documents that you feel would be appropriate to insert in the history. We will digitize your memoirs and publish them online, usually within one or two weeks of receipt.
