Much of his research work has been in the field of high-voltage phenomena including the grounded sphere-gap polarity effect and radio interference from high-voltage lines and associated equipment. He was born May 12, 1890, in Albia, Iowa, and holds the degrees of bachelor of science in electrical engineering (1912) from Oregon State College and master of science in electrical engineering (1919) from Union College.
