Biography

Dean Warren was an early participant in the nuclear story. As chief medical officer of the Manhattan Project, his father, Dr. Stafford L. Warren, set safety standards, guided the first detonation, led the initial team into Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and fought with admirals to protect from radiation hazards the 42,000 men and women who attended the Bikini atom bomb tests. Dean Warren was himself a radiation technician at Bikini.

In 2004, Dean Warren published a memoir, The Bomb and Its Deadly Shadow, based on his and his father's experiences.

Stafford Warren died in 1981. Dean Warren was interviewed by Clarence Larson in October 1983.
