Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, demonstrated the transistor for the first time on 23 December 1947. Invented by John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley, it replaced bulky vacuum tubes with solid-state technology and ushered in the age of portable electronics.
