Alexander A. McKenzie

Biography

Mr. McKenzie was born in 1908 in Albany, N.Y., USA, and graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., USA, in 1932.

During World War II, he worked at MIT's Radiation Laboratory on the development of LORAN, a radio system used by ships for precise determination of location. He was the supervisor of the installation of LORAN transmitters in Labrador, ewfoundland, Nova Scotia, Bermuda and Trinidad. Following the war, he and his family moved to Hackensack, NJ. He worked in New York City as an editor and author of technical publications, including IEEE Spectrum. After his retirement in the mid-1970s he moved to Eaton, N.H.

He died 13 Dec. 1997 in Rosemont, PA. His first wife, Barbara Garthwaite Smith, died in 1991. He was survived by his second wife, Hilda; three sons, Alexander III, C. Garthwaite, and Kenneth T.; and seven grandchildren.
