By 1963 Univac saw a market for an upgraded version of the 1218 computer having twice the speed and twice the memory capacity of their 1218. Their new 1219 used the same 18-bit instruction set architecture as the 1218. Among other uses the USN employed the 1219 when they converted their analog fire control computers to digital in the Talos. Tartar, and Terrier surface missile systems.
