Biography

Lyle Wilcox was born on August 8th, 1932 in Lansing, MI, USA. He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University. In 1965, he was hired by Clemson University as the Draper Professor, became head of the electrical engineering department in 1966, associate dean in 1970 and dean of the College of Engineering in 1973, a position he held until 1980. At Clemson, Wilcox drove enrollment, increasing it by 100 percent during his tenure as dean, initiated several collaborative projects with national grant funding and recognition, and was instrumental in establishing the Instructional Systems Development Laboratory.

In 1980, Wilcox left Clemson to serve as President of the University of Southern Colorado. He also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Department of Energy, Provost at James Madison University, Executive at Telex and Purolator and Vice Chancellor for Technology for State of West Virginia.

Wilcox passed away on October 5th, 2018.
