Biography

John William Bandler’s innovations have transformed engineering design optimization, especially the design of high-frequency technology that underpins today’s electronic communications. His work on optimization of complex, electromagnetics-based structures and devices led to a dramatic reduction in the development costs and time of numerous electronic circuits and systems. Virtually all modern commercial high-frequency design software suites now feature optimization capabilities. Bandler also pioneered space mapping technology, which drastically accelerates electro-magnetic optimization by intelligently aligning computationally intensive, high-fidelity models to their low-fidelity counterparts. Space mapping is now utilized in aircraft wing profiles, marine ecosystems, EEG processing, vehicle crashworthiness, and more.

An IEEE Life Fellow and Officer of the Order of Canada, Bandler is a professor emeritus in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at McMaster University, Ontario, Canada.
